Review: Lez Zeppelin at the Bluebird
August 22, 2007
It is hard to explain how the experience of seeing Lez Zeppelin has affected how I think about rock music, where it has been and where it is today.
My experience with Led Zeppelin has always been limited to the albums. Seeing those great songs which I know so well performed live added a completely new dimension to them. It reminded me why I love live music so much.
It also made me reassess whether Led Zeppelin is the most influential rock band in history, instead of the Beatles.
I started comparing todays rock bands with what I was seeing on stage last night. Do bands today even try to reach the level of excellence that was Led Zeppelin? The four women who make up Lez Zeppelin were technically way beyond what I normally see in a complete band these days. I cannot imagine what the real thing was like in the early 70’s.
Sure they had a great script to follow, but Lez Zeppelin makes you believe they are part of it all too. In the end it was a celebration of music we all love, not just a band covering some popular songs.
If you want to have your beliefs about rock music today challenged, go check out Lez Zeppelin when they play this Friday at the Fox Theater in Boulder.
