The Fox Theatre in Boulder has been hosting music shows since the early 90's. It is one of the best venues for watching and listening to live music in the area. There is a large main floor in front of the stage. This floor is surrounded on the sides and the back by a raised area with railings. The side railings are usually grabbed quickly as they are the most comfortable place to stand. However, there really are no bad spots in the place as long as you don't mind standing. Most shows do not have seats and are general admission only.
Because Boulder is a college town the crowd here is often younger than crowds for similar shows at the Bluebird or Ogden in Denver. The Fox Theater has a capacity of 700 but it doesn't feel even that large because the side areas bring so many people close in to the stage.
There is a bar for most shows and when it is an underage show they usually cordon off the main floor and one side for those under 21. Parking is sometimes a challenge to find as you must park on the side streets around the venue, so plan to walk a little ways to the theater from your car.
You can buy tickets for most shows ahead of time at the CD store across the street from the theater. Their web site now has some tickets available for sale online.
